Why Don’t I Have the Time to Create My Life? 3 Helpful Tips to Get Your Time Back
Let me ask you a question that hits home for a lot of us:
Why don’t you have time to create your life?
It’s a question I’ve wrestled with—and the truth is, most of us aren’t short on time. We’re just caught in a loop of consuming instead of creating.
I’m here to tell you—you can take your time back. You just need to make three powerful shifts.
1. Have a Vision and a Plan
Without a plan, you’re living someone else’s life.
The average American watches 4 hours of TV and scrolls social media for another 3. That’s 7 hours a day consuming someone else’s creativity, purpose, and energy. What if you took just a fraction of that time and invested it in creating your own life?
As it says in the Bible, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Purpose isn’t optional—it’s oxygen for your soul. When you retire and have no new mission, you fade fast. I’ve seen it happen.
That’s why you need to repack your bag, like my friend Jeff did when he left his engineering career. You’ve got to define what’s next.
2. Shift from Consuming to Creating
Let’s be real: vegging out for 30 minutes? No problem.
But 4 hours? That’s a lifestyle.
When I stopped watching hours of TV and quit checking email every 10 minutes, I started to create podcasts, content, conversations, and curiosity. And you know what? That’s when my joy returned.
If you're wondering how much time high performers spend consuming content, the answer will shock you: barely any. They're too busy building something that matters.
Even your conversations should have purpose. Not every meet-up needs to be an hour. Sometimes 10 intentional minutes can create more impact than 60 meandering ones.
3. Use Your Time With Purpose
After my stroke, doctors didn’t expect me to walk, talk, or function the same way again. But here I am—alive, focused, and full of clarity. Why? Because I found a new purpose.
I wake up at 5 a.m. to go to the gym. Not because I’m superhuman, but because I have stacked habits and a clear vision. I journal. I think. I execute. I don’t drink anymore. I rarely check email. My phone is always on silent.
That’s what it means to live with mortality motivation—to create like today is all you’ve got.
So What Do You Do Now?
Simple: Create.
Create your podcast. Write your book. Launch that program. Build that business.
Shift out of the trap of someday and into the momentum of now.

The world doesn’t need more scroll-ers.
The world needs more creators—and that starts with you.
Be bold. Make a difference. And don’t forget to have fun.
