Level Up Your Peer Group: 3 Tips to a Brighter Future

Good day, friends! Pete Kane here—your podcast host and certified high-performance coach. Today, I want to share something that can completely transform your future: leveling up your peer group.

You’ve probably heard me talk about the four human drivers—Aliveness, Connection, Meaningful Pursuit, and Growth. Today, we’re diving into Connection.

Tony Robbins once said, “The quality of your life will be determined by the quality of your relationships.” That truth hit me hard years ago, and I’ve lived by it ever since. If we want to live with energy, fulfillment, and joy, then we have to be intentional about who we surround ourselves with.

So here are 3 tips to level up your peer group and create a brighter future.


1. Make Five Calls a Day

This is simple but powerful. Every day, I make five phone calls. Not to sell anything. Not to promote myself. Just to check in.

Ask questions like:

  • What do you need right now?

  • Who would you love to meet?

  • What do you love to do?

These questions unlock connection. When you understand people at this level, you open doors—not just for them, but for yourself. Remember what scripture says: “Ask and you shall receive.” If you never ask, you’ll never know.


2. Use the Scale of 10

I rate the people I spend time with on a scale of 10 categories: happiness, health, empowerment, fulfillment, skills, enrichment, connection, galvanized energy, and more.

Why? Because if you want to grow, you need to be around the right influences.

  • Want to be healthier? Spend more time with healthy people.

  • Want to be happier? Surround yourself with joyful people.

  • Want to think bigger? Get around worldly, diverse thinkers.

You’ve heard it before: you are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. This is how you make that principle actionable.


3. Be Intentional—Not Accidental

Life isn’t about winging it. Growth doesn’t just happen by chance—it happens by choice. I set three daily goals. I live by what I call my “21-day week”—splitting each day into three six-hour blocks. This gives me freedom, clarity, and the ability to prioritize relationships without rushing.

When you check in with people consistently, when you step out of your comfort zone, when you intentionally connect with those who stretch and inspire you—that’s when growth compounds.

What if you committed to this for just one year? Five calls a day. Asking deeper questions. Surrounding yourself with people who lift you higher.

You wouldn’t just have more friends—you’d have meaningful, empowering relationships that bring energy, joy, and growth into your life.
